Christian Mogensen

I'm originally from Oslo, Norway. The story so far:

• Born 1969 - a month before Apollo 11.
• The family gains another member in 72 - I have a younger brother.
• Moved to United Arab Emirates in 1978.
• Moved back to Norway 1986. Went to high-school at Berg VGS in Oslo with strange people who I'm lucky to call friends. We go try to go skiing every Christmas.
• Went off to sit in a warm office for King and Country in 1988.
• Travelled to the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology for an undergraduate degree in Computation 90-93.
• Mysteriously accepted to Stanford, obtained a Fulbright scholarship and ran up my student loan a bit more in 1994/95.
• Thus I ended up at the Computer Science dept. of Stanfjord, made a pest of myself on the pcd-student mailing list and took up valuable office space in their cosy hangout in Margaret Jacks Hall.
• Used to be an RA for the Commentor/Digital Libraries project, where I played webmaster/listadministrator and programmer/designer.
• I broke my arm in a bike accident just after coming back from CHI'95 in Denver. The elbow is now almost back to its normal self again.
• In the summer of 95 I was lucky enough to be interning at Interval Research Corporation.
• I am a geek

• I used to be the Teaching Assistant for CS547 - the PCD seminar. It was a blast - I got to work with some of the legends in the HCI community and got paid for it...
• Now I find myself working for Vivid Studios, a very cool place.
• Snowpaws works far too hard at being a Novell sysadmin and user support person.

One of my favorite things is beer - I'm a founding member of the Norwegian Friends of the Pilsner society. Beer is good and should be enjoyed as often as possible - something Californian geography conspires against. At least Britain had a pub on every corner - California just has the corners very far apart.

After coming to Stanford, my hair grew out.

Current research (if you want to call it that) deals with the world wide web and privacy and publishing issues. Mostly this involves hacking at Perl and Python. One of the first things I did was the PRIV tag - an early stab at filtering paragraphs rather than whole documents.

I'm also into PGP and public key crypto, and the implications that this has. Therefore I'm a CPSR and EFF member.

Here is my PGP public key also available from a key server. I gave a talk on crypto in 93 that summarises a lot of the technical details involved.
